People are losing their humanity
burdened as they are by the details of their load
the less we have
the less we need
to worry about maintenance and protection
Freedom is thrust upon us
in the form of
nothing
for every thing others own
we have a no-thing to match
no home
no property
no assets
no money enough to house and feed our family
no thing
no crippling responsibilities
If we don't try to be housed or fed
we can be free to starve homeless and destitute
in the desert of our choice
nature's desert
with the rattle snakes and wild beasts
extreme heat and cold and winds
seems kinder than the city
so full of comfort
locked behind doors windows alarms
police and government and corporations
all telling us
It's NOT OURS
This coldness of not even bothering to watch us perish
so occupied enjoying
or worse
not even making use of all the things
purchased for the low low price of
one's humanity
Out in the cold we are free to appreciate
the owl hooting
the coyote's howls
the loon's plaintive calls and trilling flight entertainment
we are free to live in
this moment
again and again
like bromeliads thriving on air and mist
while you breath conditioned air and the mist from your high end spa shower
real air real mist you know
Given a choice we'd rather be in the freedom
rocking with earthquakes
exploding with volcanoes
facing life and death
instead of living in your rich plush prisons of human separation
We don't want what you have
but we still have a right to be here
